Screamin’ Energy, 5 Hour Energy, Starbucks(with lines) on every corner…what gives? I just got a twitter request from a follower on ways to increase energy and I wanted to share my response with all of you :
1. Make sure you are getting a great night’s sleep-if you aren’t getting your 8-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep nightly it will zap your energy the next day.
2. Check your thyroid levels-have your MD run a thyroid panel and include Free T3 to make sure you are converting well to the active form that will make the difference in your body. Signs of low thyroid are low body temp, dry skin, weak nails, poor hair growth, high cholesterol, constipation, slightly yellow palms, missing outer third of eyebrows. Strive for a TSH between 1-2.
3. Eat your 3 balanced meals throughout the day and be sure to include your serving of high fiber starchy carb-like lentils or black beans that provide great slow release energy for hours.
4. Avoid the energy robbers-sugar, alcohol, caffeine, sleeping pills-they may help you in the moment but they will leave you listless later.
5. Get some high intensity movement in daily, ideally in short bursts morning and midafternoon to help boost your energy levels naturally.
6. Get some natural vitamin D, i.e. sunshine, daily to help regulate your circadian rhythm.
7. Supplement with my favorite energy support professional brand supplements: B Complex, COQ10, carnitine and tyrosine to help your body’s engine create and sustain energy.
