Cravings

Our guest today is Alex Jamieson. She coaches women going through big life shake-ups to double-down on self-care, nutrition, and pleasure, and master a positive mindset, to create the energy and peace they desire in their bodies, so they can be resilient, effective and happy in their lives.

Positive Psychology on any Plan

The beautiful thing about positive psychology is that it works with whatever diet and exercise plan you are using. So many of us try to this diet or that diet and negative patterns of thought work against us. Positive psychology is the best way to reset your mindset.

The Journey to Heal

After years of being a vegan and living vegan, Alex found her body falling apart in her mid-thirties on a vegan diet. On her journey and exploration back to meat, she discovered just how important the mindset of eating actually is. She felt physically great after eating a burger, but she also felt immense shame coming from this vegan lifestyle and community.

Cravings

Originally she thought her cravings for meat and sugar were weak and not a sign of anything truly. Delving deeper into cravings, she came to find that they are requests from our body for balance. Your body needs something. We do not yet understand the language of these cravings, and so Alex has spent the last 5 years decoding the messages from cravings, the soul’s to do list.

Three Top Tools of Positive Psychology

  1. Strength- discover YOUR strength.
  2. Resilience- picking yourself back up, getting back in the game.
  3. Grit- believing that you will be ok and if you aren’t ok that you aren’t done.

Fixed vs. Growth Mindset

Knowing the difference between the two is enough to get you on a growth mindset path. When we make a statement like, “I don’t know long division” we are in a fixed mindset. When we say “I don’t know long division, yet” you are in a growth mindset, always looking to grow. Additionally, surrounding yourself with people who share that growth mindset is key.

Here’s the Cravings Quiz!

Listener Question:

How do you deal with cravings with little time to make a healthy snack?

When you eat by the plate– healthy fats, grass fed, free range proteins, and slow low carbs like lentils, squash and berries, that balance should keep you fuller longer. So ask yourself if you are having a craving or are you just hungry? Keep a bar around in your bag, in your car, at the office, nuts, grass fed beef jerky. Try a glass of water, sometimes we are just thirsty not hungry.
