Recipe: Superfood Iced Tea

by JJ Virgin on May 13, 2018

This Superfood Iced Tea comes by its name honestly – it’s super healthy, super easy, and super delicious!

Despite the fact that there’s no real definition of a “superfood,” I think we all know one when we see one. Kale, quinoa, chia seeds… add them to any dish, and it instantly feels healthier.

I define a superfood as a food that brings wholesome nutrition, vitamins, and multiple proven health benefits. The green tea, berries, and mint in this recipe definitely qualify!

First up, the berries, which are packed full of vitamins and antioxidants – the compounds that protect and repair your cells to help prevent aging and disease. Berries are also fantastic sources of omega-3s and fiber, both of which can do amazing things for your brain and heart health.

As if that wasn’t enough, those same healthy fats and fiber can also help protect your gut and immune system. If you’re looking for a true superfood, berries are the total package! (Just remember to buy organic so you don’t invite pesticides to the party…)

Next, there’s fresh mint. Studies show peppermint is great for your gut health and SIBO (small bacterial overgrowth), in part because of its antibacterial properties. Peppermint can also help with seasonal allergies because it’s a natural antihistamine.

And even the scent of this superfood can do wonders. Research proves that the smell of peppermint can relieve stress and assist with short-term memory. There are not many foods that can do you good before you even eat them!

And finally, the star of the show: green tea. I admit I’m completely biased, as I drink about 32 ounces of iced unsweetened green tea every day! But that’s because not only is it tasty, it’s also got numerous health benefits.

Green tea can improve your memory and focus and hit the afterburners on your metabolism. And unlike other caffeinated drinks, green tea can also help you stay calm and anxiety-free, thanks to the amino acid L-theanine. And this recipe uses Pique Tea Crystals, which are cold-brewed and crystallized to create a superhero version of green tea. The result is a gold medal-winning drink that has incredible clear, refreshing flavor.

Combine Pique green tea with the other superfoods in this recipe, and you get a glass of iced tea that is not only thirst-quenching, it can also help you stay healthier. (Try getting a promise like that from a diet cola!)
