Recipe: Orange Hot Chocolate

It’s a scene from every Hallmark Channel movie: the main character curls up in front of a roaring fire, wearing cozy flannel PJs and clutching a mug of steamy hot cocoa.

Unfortunately, the sugar and dairy in that hot chocolate are anything but romantic. There’s nothing very idyllic about blood sugar crashes, carb cravings, and mood swings. (Not to mention the cramps and skin breakouts dairy can cause. Ouch!)

This is the recipe that changes all that. With less than a gram of sugar per serving and 12 grams of protein, it’s the perfect way to rev up your metabolism for better energy and fat-burning potential. And the flavors are perfect – sweet, floral orange zest fits just right with deep, velvety chocolate.

Velvety chocolate and zesty orange flavor set this healthy hot cocoa recipe apart. It’s the perfect metabolism-boosting recipe for cold weather!

Virgin Diet compliant: Cycles 1, 2, and 3
Sugar Impact Diet compliant: Cycles 1, 2, and 3

  • Yields: 2 Servings

Ingredients

2 scoops JJ Virgin Chocolate All-In-One Protein Shake powder* (your choice of protein type)

14 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk

2 tsp raw cacao powder

1 tsp real vanilla extract

grated zest of an organic orange

Whipped coconut cream to serve (optional, recipe below)

Directions

1Blend the protein powder, coconut milk, vanilla extract, and orange zest in a blender until the ingredients are well-mixed.

2Transfer to a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat until steamy, stirring occasionally.

3Divide into 2 mugs and top with a dollop of whipped coconut cream. Enjoy!

This dreamy, dairy-free whipped concoction makes the perfect topping for any drink or treat. It's a beautiful cloud of naturally sweet coconut.

Virgin Diet compliant: Cycles 1, 2, and 3
Sugar Impact Diet compliant: Cycles 1, 2, and 3

  • Yields: 1/2 cup

Ingredients

1 scoop JJ Virgin Vanilla All-In-One Protein Shake powder* (your choice of protein type)

1 (14 oz.) can full-fat unsweetened coconut milk, refrigerated at least 12 hours

1 tsp real vanilla extract

1/2 tsp monk fruit extract or stevia (optional, to taste)

Directions

1Open the can and drain off the liquid. (Save it to use in protein shakes!)

2Then scoop the firm coconut meat into a medium bowl; add vanilla and monk fruit extract or stevia.

3Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until completely whipped and thick.

4Refrigerate until ready to use.
