Recipe: Pumpkin Spice Latte Shake

by JJ Virgin on September 6, 2016

Every fall without fail, social media and the local Starbucks are full of all things pumpkin spice. And while the warm scent is perfect for autumn, the added sugars, dairy, and artificial flavors in a pumpkin spice latte are definitely not a great way to celebrate such a beautiful season!

Enter the Pumpkin Spice Latte Shake. It’s got the amazing spicy flavors of a traditional PSL, plus the fiber of pumpkin to keep you full and satisfied. Add fantastic soy- and dairy-free protein powder and healthy fats from coconut milk, and you’ve got the perfect coffee drink.

Their grande Pumpkin Spice Latte has 50 grams of sugar, plus artificial flavors and preservatives. Our shake has just three grams of sugar, plus 23 grams of energizing clean protein and 9 grams of heart-healthy, brain-boosting fiber.

And you're not just doing your health a favor – your wallet will thank you, too! A Pumpkin Spice Latte Shake costs $3.64 to make, based on average national prices for all the ingredients (and that's including organic pumpkin).

By comparison, a Starbucks PSL of the same size costs $5.65 (again, based on national averages). That means you save a whopping $2 per Pumpkin Spice Latte, plus get amazing taste and nutrition!

And if you aren’t already a protein shake fan, you will be!

Protein shakes are the number one needle mover when it comes to quick weight loss, and I recommend them in both The Virgin Diet and the Sugar Impact Diet. (Find out why here.)

They’re an easy way to get great nutrition, and they keep you from skipping meals or fueling up with sugar and empty carbs that send you into a cycle of mood swings and energy crashes.
