Recipe: Spicy Gingersnap Shake

by JJ Virgin on December 7, 2017

Gingersnaps are the ultimate holiday cookie! And this spicy, sweet protein shake perfectly captures all that yummy flavor without the gluten, dairy, or sugar…

You’ll notice this recipe calls for both ground and grated fresh ginger. That’s great news because ginger has multiple health benefits, including being a natural anti-inflammatory and fantastic for your gut health.

Ever wonder why gingersnap cookies are so spicy? The primary flavor compound in ginger is called “gingersaicins.” If you’re a chile head, you might notice how similar that word sounds to “capsaicins” – the stuff that gives chile peppers their heat… They’re actually very closely related!

So now you have the perfect holiday breakfast shake to share with loved ones, along with a fun little piece of food trivia. Enjoy!
