Recipe: Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

by JJ Virgin on November 8, 2019

Have you noticed that Brussels sprouts are everywhere these days?

They seem to be offered as a side at every happening restaurant. Well, I can tell you why… because they are amazing!

Brussels sprouts are part of the cruciferous vegetable family, along with favorites like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. They supply a rich variety of nutrients and antioxidants, including a good boost of protein. If you are looking to eat healthier, add this super veggie into your weekly rotation.

Cruciferous veggies are also high in sulfur, which makes Brussels sprouts great at naturally detoxifying your body. (That sulfur is also why they have a bit of a whiff when you open the lid on leftovers…) Because they’re high in fiber as well, they’re ideal to help cleanse your digestive tract and pull out any toxins that might be lingering.

Trust me, this recipe is not the limp and bitter Brussel sprouts of your youth! The roasting process makes way for heavenly caramelization and succulent flavors. Now, pair this flavor profile with crispy crumbled bacon and fragrant garlic, and we’re talking next level.

If, for whatever glorious reason, you already have crispy bacon left over in the fridge, simply crumble over the Brussels sprouts after roasting. (And if you love bacon as much as I do, check out these other dreamy recipes.)

Whenever possible, look for bacon made from pastured, heritage breed pork that has never been fed any soy, corn, hormones, or antibiotics. Our planet, including you and your loved ones, deserves the very best.
